Poster Presentations

Purpose: To offer an opportunity for medical students, residents and fellows to share significant research and clinical work of interest with IMS membership. Up to 20 posters or pieces of artwork will be chosen for display during the 2017 IMS Annual Conference,Renewing Passion & Purpose in Practice, on April 29, 2017. The top three display presentations will be awarded cash prizes.

Eligibility: Applicants must be a medical student currently enrolled at Des Moines University College of Osteopathic Medicine or the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine; or a resident or fellow in an accredited Iowa training program. Posters/artwork may be original or previously published. Applicants are limited to one abstract submission.

Criteria for selection: IMS will select up to 20 posters/artwork to display at the 2017 IMS Annual Conference. Submissions should present information of interest to physicians and their patients. During the conference, an evaluation session will be held to provide an opportunity for discussion, question and answer, and judging. Those chosen to present are required to participate in this designated interactive session in order to qualify for prizes.

Display specifications: Posters/artwork should be no larger than 48” wide by 36” high. A table, display board, and supplies to attach materials to the display board will be provided by IMS. Content and ethical considerations: Submissions are intended to convey a scientific result and may not contain advertisements for pharmaceutical or durable equipment companies. All presenters will be required to sign and submit a disclosure statement, failure to comply with this requirement will result in the application being removed from consideration. IMS reserves the right to deny any application that, in the opinion of the reviewers, is deemed promotional, commercial, or unethical.

On-site judging and awards: Submissions chosen for display at the 2017 IMS Annual Conference will be judged through an evaluation process consisting of the following criteria: significance; innovation; approach; poster design; and presentation. Cash prizes will be awarded for the top three submissions.

Application process: All applicants are required to submit the following materials no later than Friday, February 24, 2017.

Tentative schedule on Saturday, April 29, 2017:

Set up of displays 6:30 – 7:00 a.m.

Posters to be displayed 7:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.

Judging of posters 7:00 – 8:00 a.m.

Display/Prizes announced 12:15 – 1:30 p.m. (during lunch)

Tear-down of displays 2:00 – 4:00 p.m.

Please note: Applicants are only required to be present at their displays while the judging is taking place.
